Titirangi Dental is a boutique family dental practice. With more than 65 years in Titirangi Village, Titirangi Dental is committed to the community that they are very much part of.

 

Challenges

The following business challenges were identified in the initial meeting between Titirangi Dental and Designertech 

  • The use of Exact (a dental practice management software) required Microsoft Office components, principally Word and Excel plus Outlook as a mail client. The current versions of Microsoft Office licensed were out of support 
  • Their current mail server software was getting older and more costly to support

 

Project Summary

To achieve the project goals, Designertech planned and executed migration of Titirangi Dental’s email services to the Office 365 service, and installed a current version of Office on PCs. 

As by the customer’s design, the project was executed over the period of a month and came in on time and budget. There was also no impact on the customer’s productivity during the migration.

Project Objective

The goals of the project were 

  • To provide a current, supported version of Office software 
  • Make Office licensing independent of the machine on which it is installed and ensure it remains up to date
  • Provide a well-supported email service that integrates with Exact

 

Project Summary

How the Project Helped

  • Titirangi Dental's Microsoft Office software was updated to the latest version and linked to Office 365 online, and as a result will always be current 
  • Their business critical email service was also moved to Office 365 and will therefore always be current and in support 
  • Because of the Office 365 Service Level AgreementsTitirangi Dental have been able to achieve much higher availability for this service 
  • The cost model is subscription, massively reducing capital outlay 
  • Titirangi Dental’s email is now no longer tied to the availability of the on- premises servers and load has been removed from these servers 
  • The Office licenses are not tied to the PC hardware and so do not have to be replaced with machine upgrades 
  • Users can deploy Office on multiple devices at no additional cost, including home PCs, phones or tablets 
  • The number of seats and cost can be scaled up or down as needed 
"Moving to a hybrid of cloud-plus-on-premises IT has enabled us to run modern, well integrated and supported email and Office applications without sinking capital into equipment and software license expenditure. With Office 365 our Office applications will always be current, breaking the obsolescence/security risk/capital outlay cycle. Now we have access to email and Office anywhere. With our backups to Azure we can recover from a range of adverse events, including complete site loss- Heaven forbid!”
